Roma Merchants

Trading has always been one of the most important occupations of the Roma/Ashkali in Kosovo: Roma sold haberdashery, baskets and small things made of plastic in the street. They owned small corner shops and kiosks, clothes shops, boutiques and large import-export businesses. After many years of hard work in Western European countries, many Roma had saved up enough to start their own businesses at home. The Kosovo Rom Ali Laroshi, for instance, is one of the most successful entrepreneurs who does not deny his background. He generously supports the cultural activities of Roma organisations.
